Natuzzi Italia celebrates art and design with an installation by Xu Zhen

An installation by Xu Zhen, from 21st to 25th November in Shanghai at the Jing An Kerry Center

Natuzzi Italia is presenting “City Carnival”, an installation by Chinese artist Xu Zhen, from 21st to 25th November 2018 in Shanghai at the Jing An Kerry Center during the third edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai 2018.

Xu Zhen site-specific installation is a deep contemplation on art and living. It inserts furnishings from the Natuzzi Italia collection into a “room” made of coloured wood in organic, linear shapes: a place to rethink the relationship between cities and private spaces.

In “City Carnival”, the sofa and accessories from the Icon collection, the Phantom table and Frida chair dialogue with one of Xu Zhen’s main works, Under Heaven, a series of large-format paintings made with multi-coloured paints meticulously distributed on the canvas to create a substantial mixture that extends into the space. The work symbolizes a dense, impenetrable landscape, an aerial view of a flourishing city.

The “City Carnival” installation is part of the larger “Open Art in Harmony” project launched last May in Shanghai and is the last stage of eleven travelling events which, from June to October 2018, brought art inside Natuzzi Italia stores throughout China.

Coinciding with the presentation of the “City Carnival” installation, the Re-thinking Re-vive project was presented, which, after London, New York and Milan, arrives in Shanghai. Re-vive, an iconic Natuzzi Italia product, was presented in Shanghai through original reinterpretations by two Chinese artists: Henry Han (oil painting and splash artist)  and NONO (illustration and graffiti artist). During the presentation cocktail party, the artists staged a live and interactive performance and the Re-vive armchair became a canvas with a dense texture, transforming a design object into a work of art.
